The documentary film tells the story of four female weavers from the Sanggar Lepo Lorun weaving group in Maumere, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), managed by Alfonsa Horeng. The perspective of an uninitiated audience is represented by Mesty Ariotedjo, who serves as the narrator. The film gradually opens the viewers' eyes to the fact that woven fabrics are rich in philosophical and cultural values. In Indonesian, Au lorun means "I weave." This film was first screened at the Plaza Indonesia Film Festival (PIFF), themed Celebrating Women, on May 26, 2015.
Maintaining the audience's engagement for 1.5 hours in a documentary is not an easy feat. However, the director responded to this challenge with several strategies. The dynamic cinematography ensures the visuals are not monotonous, despite many extended dialogues that explain the story.
Au Lorun successfully conveys the special significance of woven fabrics, emphasizing that the essence of this cultural heritage should never be forgotten. Beyond that, the film also offers a reflective message to its viewers.
